Brother Knights and Families:
2018 is here and as the New Year begins we often reflect on our individual goals and aspirations for the coming twelve months. Our challenge as Men and Women of Faith is to also reflect on what God is asking us to do. Many of our Scripture readings this month have come from the book of Samuel. 1 Samuel 3: 9 contains a timeless passage-“Speak Lord, for your servant is listening”. As we move forward into 2018 please take a moment to reflect on this passage and it’s meaning for you as a servant of Christ.
Our Council events in January focused on fulfilling the first two principles of our Order: Charity and Unity. In the area of Charity: Under the leadership of Andre Casias we gathered as a community for Spaghetti Dinner on January 6, 2018 to support a Knight and Family in Need. In addition, our Deputy Grand Knight, Tom Walls along with Ray Luque and Ernie Gurule will be presenting donation checks from our Tootsie Roll Drive to the Special Olympics of Colorado and Marisol Home to support their efforts in the coming year.
In the area of Unity: Our Council once again led a congregation of over 75 people to the Celebration of Life Rally and March on January 13, 2018. Special Thank you to Joe Feiten for his Leadership in coordinating this amazing event. The weather was wonderful and we had a great crowd at the State Capital to show Unity with Women in choosing Life. We also gathered in Unity for a Family Prayer during our Game Night on January 19, 2018 to offer petitions for loved ones and families in need of our Prayers. Thanks to Demetrio Carrillo for leading our Prayer and to Toby and Toni Serrano for providing delicious homemade Pizza for all to enjoy!
Finally, the Hall of Memory Committee has begun deliberations for our 2018 inductees. George Snellbaker, Leo Amend, Jim Archer and Leroy Mondragon are leading this team. If you have suggestions or questions for them please reach out them directly. The Hall of Memory Dinner will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at our Council Hall. Please mark your calendars to join us as we honor those who made significant, lifetime contributions of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism to Council and our Order.
Looking Ahead:
Ozzie Mazzuca is leading Council Free Throw Contest for Youth which is being held in conjunction with Assumption Knights Council on January 28, 2018 from 12pm to 1:30pm at Assumption Catholic School (2341 E 78th Avenue, Denver CO 80229). All are welcome! Ozzie and his team will also be leading the Knights of Columbus State Basket-ball Free Throw Contest in March at Holy Family High School. More details to follow.
As Lent approaches we will once again be host a Community Fish Fry (4:30-7:00pm) for our Parish preceding the Stations of the Cross at IHM. Please plan to join on us each Friday in Lent for a great meal. We will also be distrib-uting Cross of Solidarity Prayer Cards supporting Persecuted Christians in the Middle East during these events.
The wonderful addition of a Latin Mass at IHM on Saturday morning presents the need to adjust our Be Transformed Prayer and Adoration Hour during Lent. Our Church Pillar, led by Tom Nordhus is working hard to offer this popular program at an alternative day and time. More details will be coming out shortly so stay tuned.
As we close out the Football season our Council will once again hold a Super Bowl Social and Pot Luck on February 4, 2018. The Hall will open 1 hour prior to kick off. Rudy Baron and Eric Wilson are leading this event and will send out additional details shortly. Come join us for some great food and fellowship!
Thanks for all you do to make our Council, Parish and Community a better place. To 2018!!
Vivat Jesus
