Brother Knights and Families:
The leaves are turning and it’s a great time of the year to live in Colorado. As
usual, our Council was very active in September. It’s really a joy to reflect on what we have accomplished together each month for the newsletter.
On September 2nd, many members of Council and Squired joined together to restore the yard of and fence of Vietnam Veteran Tim Valdez. Led by Eric Wilson and Rudy Baron we stabilized and painted Tim’s fence and cleaned out his gutters. We took many pictures and finished the work in record time. There are too many people who helped out to list here but please know your giving spirit is much appreciated! Events like these make us all very proud to be a Knight of Columbus.
The American Cancer Society North Metro Relay for Life held its annual 24 hour walking fundraiser on September 9th at Westminster City Park. Jan Cogar and Rudy Baron coordinated our Team Efforts and raised quite a bit of money with the Ladies of the Knights Team. In addition, our Council cooked for the Relay participants and raised almost $300 in donations for Cancer. Thanks to Bob Harter and Eric Wilson for leading our efforts with cooking. It was a wonderful day to remember and honor our loved ones lost to a terrible disease.
Our Council Parish Breakfast for 2017-2108 Fraternal Year kicked off in September 10th after the 7am and 9am Mass. Jarred Harris is working on some exciting enhancements to our breakfast menu for the coming months. Charlene Malsom has begun to use the Sign-Up Genius for volunteers in the Ladies Auxiliary. We will look into using the same tool for Knights to sign up as well. Our next breakfast will be October 8, 2017. Please come by and join us for community fellowship. Our Squires group also served a Discernment Lunch at St John Vianney on the same day.
Andre Casias and Demetrio Carrillo hosted one of our most successful Family Prayer and Game Night ever on September 15th. The theme was BBQ and they did a great job of putting it all together. Before dinner we all gathered in community prayer and petitions, it was awesome! Our next Game Night will be November 17th, if you have not been to one of these come check it out. It’s a lot of fun and fellowship for all.
Our High School and College Scholarship Committee has finished their work and made great recommendations on our two programs. Special thanks to Larry Allwine, Brian Appelhans, and Ed Getsch leading the efforts in this area. We have a great plan moving forward.
Ray Luque and Ernie Gurule will be leading our efforts on the Tootsie Roll Campaign to benefit the Mental Disabilities, Special Olympics and other Charities of Colorado. We will be out in front of 6 Stores to raise money and distribute Tootsie Rolls on October 14, 2017. Ray will be sending out a Sign Up Genius in for 2 hour slots on that day. Please help us out with this great cause.
Our Field Agent, Randall Heskett will be hosting an Estate Planning and Benefit Night at our Hall on October 26, 2017. More details will be coming out shortly. Please mark your calendars for this great event.
Thanks to all for everything you do to make a difference in our Parish and Community.
